Qualcosa di diverso - Something different

Un'idea che mi è venuta quando, nelle settimane passate, avevo poco tempo a disposizione e la necessità di realizzare piccoli pensieri per la Santa Cresima di alcune ragazzine. Per velocizzare il lavoro ho creato degli adesivi in stoffa che poi ho applicato sulle basi ed aggiunto qualche dettaglio dipinto.

Magari questa idea può tornare utile anche a voi, così ho pensato di realizzare gli steps e pubblicarli.

An idea came to me when, in the past weeks, I had little time available and the need to make small gifts for Holy Confirmation of some girls. To speed up the work I made easy fabric stickers, applied them to the surfaces and added some quick hand painted detalis.

Maybe this idea can be useful to you, so I planned on doing the tutorial and post it.

... e a  un blocco è stato aggiunto un portamatite in legno.

E' proprio del portamatite che ho realizzato gli steps. Siete pronte?

Procuratevi:

- portamatite in legno o qualsiasi altro oggetto che volete realizzare

- colori acrilici verde chiaro - verde pino - azzurro cielo - bianco - giallo calendula - rosso

- pennello punta piatta per il fondo -  pennello punta tonda medio - pennello punta tonda fine

- pennarello nero indelebile punta fine

- 3 diversi ritagli di cotonine

- nastro bi-adesivo

- forbici

- un foglio di carta per stampa 

- matita

I made the tutorial of the pencil holder. Are you ready?

You need:

- wooden pencil holder or everything else you want to decorate

- acrylic paints: light green - pine green - sky blue - white - marigold - red

- flat medium size tip brush -  round medium size tip brush -  round small size tip brush

- permanent black pen

- 3 different fabric scraps

- double sided adhesive tape

- scissors 

- 1 computer paper sheet

- pencil

Istruzioni - Directions ::

1 - Iniziate scaricando, riducendo se necessario e stampando lo schema.

1 - Begin by downloading, reducing if necessary and printing the template.

2 - Dipingete il portamatite in azzurro e un bordo, a circa cm.2 dal fondo, in verde chiaro con il pennello a punta piatta. Lasciate asciugare.

2 - Base coat twice the pencil holder in sky blue and a border, about cm.2 from the bottom, light green with the flat brush. Let it dry.

3 - Dal foglio stampato ritagliate il guscio della tartaruga (#1), il fiore (#2) ed il centro dello stesso (#3).

3 - From the printed sheet cut out the turtle shell (#1), the flower (#2) and its center (#3).

4 - Prendete ora i tre ritagli di stoffa e girateli al contrario. Posizionate su ciascuno di essi un pezzo di nastro bi-adesivo senza togliere la carta protettiva.

4 - Take your 3 different fabric scraps and lay them with the wrong side facing you. Put the double sided adhesive tape without peeling off the paper backing.

5 - Tracciate le sagome sulla carta protettiva del nastro adesivo.

5 - Trace the patterns onto the paper backing of the adhesive tape.

6 - Ritagliatele.

6 - Cut out the shapes.

7 - Quando tutte e tre le parti sono ritagliate potete procedere all'assemblaggio.

7 - When all three parts are cut you can proceed.

8 - Togliete la carta di protezione del bi-adesivo, posizionate il guscio e il fiore seguendo lo schema. Incollate il centro sopra il fiore. Premete con delicatezza per fare bene aderire il tutto. Con una matita tracciate la testa e le zampe della tartaruga, il gambo e la foglia del fiore.

8 - Peel off the paper backing and place the turtle shell and the flower, following my pattern. Stick the center to the flower. Press them down gently with your fingers, so they will stick well. With the pencil trace the turtle head and feet and the flower stalk and leaf.

9 - Dipingete in giallo calendula la tartaruga, in verde chiaro la foglia e alcune nuvole in bianco con il pennello a punta tonda medio. Dipingete lo stelo in verde pino con il pennello a punta tonda fine.

9 - Paint the turtle in marigold, the leaf in light green and some clouds in white with round medium size brush. Paint the stalk in pine green with round small size brush.

10 - Create l'ombra alla tartaruga mescolando una punta di rosso al color calendula e sfumate delicatamente. Aggiungete poi un tocco di luce sia alla tartaruga che alla foglia con il color bianco.

10 - Add thinned washes of marigold paint mixed with a touch of red to warm the turtle. Add the light shade to the turtle and to the leaf with white paint.

11 - Aggiungete altri fiori e nuvole attorno al portamatite, seguendo i medesimi passaggi di cui sopra.

11 - Add other flowers and clouds all around the pencil holder, following the same above steps.

12 - Contornate il tutto con il pennarello indelebile nero, aggiungendo piccoli dettagli tipo l'occhio, la bocca alla tartaruga e l'erba.

12 - Using the permanent black pen outline the work, adding small details such as turtle eye and mouth and small blades of grass.

Tempo di more e di mare - Blackberry and Sea Time

Anche questa estate gli arbusti di more del nostro giardino ci hanno donato tanti frutti dalle meravigliose tonalità.

E' incredibile quanto la natura sia perfetta nelle sue forme, sfaccettature, sfumature.  

Una gioia per gli occhi ed il palato. 

Also this Summer the blackberry bushes in my garden  have given us many wonderful fruits. It's amazing how nature is perfect in its forms, shades, ins and outs. A feast for the eyes and taste.

Così, oltre che fare scorpacciate di questi frutti degli elfi, perchè ogni volta che li guardo non posso fare a meno di immaginare piccoli esseri che saltellano tra gli intricati intrecci di rami, dondolando sui frutti maturi, quest'anno ho deciso di provare a tingere anche qualche pezzo di stoffa con il succo di alcune more.

Il risultato è stato strepitoso. Una tonalità vibrante che mi riempie il cuore di gioia e vitalità ed anche un soprendente aroma di frutti di bosco! 

Not only we stuffed ourselves with them. I've used these elves' fruits, because every time I look at the bushes I can't help but imagine little creatures skipping between the intricate interlacing of  branches, swaying on the ripe fruits, to dye some cotton clothes.

The result was amazing. A vibrant colour that fills my heart with joy and vitality and also a surprising aroma of berries!

Con uno dei pezzi tinti ho confezionato un cuore che ho poi dipinto nel vano tentativo di rendere omaggio a queste piccole e preziose dolci coccole di fine estate.

With one of these clothes I've sewed a little heart that I painted in a vain attempt to pay tribute to these small and precious gifts of late Summer.

La mia estate si chiude ora con una settimana di vacanza. Finalmente è giunto il momento di andare a ritrovare il mio amato mare.

Tornerò al 10 di settembre con qualche piccola novità!

Folk scapes & Canvas

Circa un mese fa ho ordinato da NINA un paio delle sue meravigliose stoffe e matassine tinte a mano.              About a month ago I ordered a pair of wonderful hand dyed fabrics and skeins from NINA.

Quando mi sono arrivate ho immediatamente pensato di creare qualcosa unendo ad esse i miei dipinti.  Da un po' di tempo mi frullava in testa l'idea di dipingere piccoli paesaggi in stile folk. Così è nato questo sampler con un semplice alfabeto a punto croce realizzato da mia sorella sulla tela di Nina di una delicatissima tonalità rosa polvere. Giusto per dare il tocco finale all'insieme, una delle stoffe di Blackbird Designs è proprio il supporto ideale. Ora non ci resta che cucire il tutto.   

When they arrived I immediately thought to create something combining them with my paintings. For some time to paint small folk style scapes was running through my mind.    That’s how this sampler is born, with a simple cross-stitch alphabet made by my sister on the Nina’s delicate powder pink canvas. Just to give the final touch  this fabric of Blackbird Designs is simply perfect. Now we have to sew up everything.

Addobbi - Ornaments

Con la Befana le feste si sono concluse. E' giunto il momento di togliere tutti gli addobbi, mettere via l'albero e cercare di dare una pulita perchè domenica avremo dei parenti a pranzo. Prima di togliere tutto vorrei farvi vedere un paio di decorazioni dell'albero.

With the Feast of the Epiphany celebrations are over. Tomorrow I’m going to take down all the Christmas decor, put away the tree and do some general cleaning because we have relatives next Sunday for lunch. Before taking down everything let me show you a couple of decorations.

Sono gli orsetti in cartoncino riciclato, chiamati da mia sorella "eco-bubi" (bubo è l'orsetto per mio figlio, ndr) e gli angioletti in feltro e cotonina un po' "primitive style". Avrei voluto postare le istruzioni per creare entrambi circa un mese fa, quando poteva avere ancora un senso, ma ovviamente non sono riuscita nell'intento e così vi posto i tutorials ora. Almeno sono sicura di darvi un paio di idee in tempo per... il prossimo Natale!

They are bears made with recycled cardboard, which have been named by my sister "eco-bubi" (bubo is the teddy bear for my son) and the little angels made with cotton fabric and felt.
I wish I would have posted the instructions to create both about a month ago,but obviously I have not succeeded in, so I write the tutorials now. At least I am sure to give you a couple of ideas in time for ... next Christmas

Partiamo con gli ECO-BUBI. Premetto che non sono una mia creazione, bensì un idea passatami dalla mia amica Lella che, a sua volta, deve averla recuperata da qualche altra parte, quindi non voglio togliere il "diritto d'autore" a nessuno. In quanto "eco", come ho già accennato sopra, sono fatti di cartoncino di scarto, vale a dire di scatole di biscotti, di pasta ecc.. Può andare bene tutto, ogni eco-bubo sarà unico ed originale. Occorre inoltre una forbice piuttosto piccola, una chiocciolina di nastro bi-adesivo, dello spago da cucina, un ago da ricamo, un pennarello nero indelebile a punta fine e, se volete proprio fare le precisine come me, una boccetta di acrilico bianco ed un pennello a punta tonda molto piccola. Il procedimento è piuttosto semplice. Ritagliare tutte le parti del corpo seguendo il disegno sotto riportato, avendo cura di tenere la testa, il corpo e le gambe di un colore diverso dal resto delle parti. Incollare al corpo, con il bi-adesivo, la testa e le gambe. Alle gambe incollare le zampe di un colore differente, alla testa incollare il muso e l'interno delle orecchie. Con il pennarello disegnare la bocca, il naso e gli occhi. Si possono creare i punti luce su naso e occhi con l'acrilico bianco. Forare con l'ago ed inserire un pezzetto di spago da cucina della lunghezza desiderata. L'eco-bubo è pronto. Andrea ne è andato matto. L'albero ne era pieno e lui tutti i giorni li andava a salutare tutti!

Let's start with the ECO-BUBI
I state that they are not my own creation, but an idea that friend Lella gave me, who, in turn , must have recovered from somewhere else, then I do not want to infringe the copyright to anybody.
As "eco", as I mentioned above, they are made of recycled cardboard, ie from boxes of biscuits, pasta, etc. .. Can fit all, every eco-bubo will be unique and original. You need also small scissors, a double-sided adhesive tape, kitchen string, a needle embroidery, a permanent black marker pen and, if you really want to do the detailing, just like me, a bottle of white acrylic and a very small round brush. The procedure is quite simple. Cut out all parts of the body following the sketch below, taking care to keep the head, body and legs of a different color from the rest of the parties. Paste on the body, with the double-sided adhesive, head and legs. On legs paste the feet of a different color, on head paste the nose and the inside of the ears. With the marker to draw the mouth, nose and eyes. If you wish detailing create points of light on the nose and eyes with white acrylic. Puncture with the needle and insert a piece of kitchen string of desired length. Eco-bubo is ready. Andrea has gone mad. The tree was full and he went every day to greet them all!

Passiamo ora agli angeli. Questa è una mia creazione ed è proprio senza pretese. Nel senso che io non so cucire e questo è ciò che la mia scarsissima abilità è riuscita a fare. Occorre del feltro\pannolenci sottile, del cotone fantasia, dello spago, delle piccole sagome di legno, un paio di forbici, un po' di imbottitura, del filo da ricamo, un ago da ricamo, alcuni spilli, pennello, colori acrilici, un pezzettino di carta vetrata, colla a caldo. Qui sotto lo schema. Ho tagliato per ciascun angioletto due cuori in feltro, che sono le ali, e due forme del corpo di cui una in feltro e una in cotone. Io ho scelto una base di feltro color cioccolato sia per il retro dei cuori che del corpo, per il davanti del corpo ritagli di cotone uguali ma di diverso colore e per il davanti dei cuori un feltro coordinato per ciascun colore delle stoffe. In tutto sono stati realizzati 9 angeli, 3 per ciascun colore. Dopo aver tagliato tutte le sagome ho cucito a due a due i cuori con punto festone. Per i corpi ho inserito, ancor prima di cucirli, l'ovatta aiutandomi, per tenerla ferma, con degli spilli inseriti a circa mezzo centimetro dal bordo. Ho cucito il contorno del corpo, rimanendo all'esterno degli spilli, avendo cura di partire con la cucitura dal collo dell'angelo. In questa maniera, dopo averlo cucito tutto il filo sarà nella giusta posizione per fissare con qualche punto il cuore nel retro dello stesso senza doverlo tagliare. Ho fissato inoltre all'interno delle due stoffe lo spago dandogli un paio di punti mentre stavo cucendo la testa. Ho dipinto a parte le sagome di legno, cuori e stelle, con colori acrilici coordinati a ciascun angelo. Ne ho carteggiato i bordi e li ho incollati con la colla a caldo sugli angeli. Io ho giocato sui toni del mostarda, ruggine e bordeaux e devo ringraziare la mia sorellina che mi ha dato una grande mano per entrambi i tipi di addobbi. Bene, spero che vi possano venire utili.

We now come to the angel. This is my own creation and it is unpretentious. In the sense that I do not sew and this is what my ability is able to do: very very little. You need thin felt, patterned cotton fabric, some twine, small wooden shapes, a pair of scissors, a little stuffing, embroidery thread, embroidery needle, some pins, one brush, acrylic colors , a piece of sandpaper, hot glue. Below you find the pattern. For each angel you need 2 felt hearts, which are the wings, and two body shapes one felt and one cotton. I chose a base of chocolate brown felt for both the back of the hearts and of the body, the front of the body are scraps of cotton equal but different color and the front of the felt hearts are other felt scraps coordinated within the cotton fabrics. In all they are 9 angels, 3 for each color. After cutting all the shapes I have sewn two by two the hearts with blanket stitches. For bodies I stuffed them before sewing, helping the stuffing to hold in position with pins about half a centimeter from the edge. I sewed around the body, remaining outside the pins, with quick stitches, taking care of starting stitching from the neck of the angel. In this way, after all the stitches are done, you will be able to fix easily the heart in the back of the boby without cutting the thread. I also added the twine while I was sewing, setting it within the two fabrics. I hand-painted wooden shapes, hearts and stars, with acrylic colors coordinated to each angel. I sanded the edges to give them the effect a bit primitive and I have bonded them with the hot glue on the angels. I played in shades of mustard, rust and burgundy, and I must thank my sister who gave me a big hand for both types of decorations. Well, I hope that there may be useful.

Lavanda - Lavender

Delicati mazzolini di lavanda profumata, decorati con cuori dipinti in crema e bianco.
Delicate small bunches of scented lavender, decorated with hearts painted in cream and white.

 La lavanda rimasta profuma e decora la mia camera da letto in tanti mazzetti sparsi.

The remaining lavender scents and decorates my bedroom in many scattered little bunches.

Piccoli reagli - Little gifts

Due piccoli regali pasquali: un cappello di paglia su cui ho dipinto le mie adorate rose ed un sacchetto di cotone damascato che ho riempito di ovetti di cioccolato, chiuso da nastri di organza e fiori di stoffa.

Two little Easter gifts: a straw hat on which I painted my favourite rose and a cotton damask fabric sachet bag which I filled with many little chocolate eggs and tied with organza ribbons and fabric flowers.

Spille & sciarpe - Pins & scarves

Ho creato queste spille a forma di tulipano circa tre anni fa e da parecchio tempo se ne stavano a nanna, in una scatola nella mia camera da letto. Quando mia cugina Lydia dall’America ha spedito a me e a mia sorella queste sciarpe “pelosine” fatte a mano da lei, immediamente mi sono tornate in mente ed in mano le spille. I colori sono perfetti così come è perfetto il tocco in più che danno alle sciarpe, che già di loro sono morbide, allegre e soprattutto calde calde.

I created these tulip shaped pins about three years ago and they had been long since sleeping in a box in my bedroom. When my cousin Lydia, from Usa, sent me and my sister these scarves hand made by her, I have returned immediately to mind and hand the pins. The scarves are soft, cheerful, very warm and the pins are the perfect touch added to them.

Non del tutto contenta dell’effetto però, ho voluto dare un po’ di volume e un tocco di luce in più ai miei tulipani. Così ho fatto un’aggiunta decorativa usando bottoni vintage, perline e filo argentato. Ecco il risultato finale. Grazie Lydia!

Not happy but the effect I wanted to give a little volume and a touch of light in more to my tulips. So I added a decoration using vintage buttons, beads and silver wire. Here is the final result. Thanks a lot Lydia!

Pasta di sale - Salt dough

Ma finirà mai questo gennaio??? Eccomi di nuovo dopo una settimana di silenzio. L’influenza mi ha colpito ed affondato e con me anche il mio bambino. Se per noi adulti avere l’influenza vuol dire tutte le cose che già sappiamo, per un bambino piccolo vuol dire molto di più e per una mamma vuol dire passare ore e ore con il suo cucciolo in braccio. Un piccolo che non ha pace, che non trova posizione, che ha bisogno di te anche se tu sei debole quasi quanto lui ma, lui questo non lo sa. A tutto ciò posso aggiungere un marito che ha passato la settimana dietro a fastidi piuttosto seri sul lavoro, peraltro ancora non risolti.
Spero che febbraio sia solo un pochino migliore.
Siccome non è bello piangersi addosso e men che meno farlo su un blog, posto alcune foto di vecchi lavori fatti con la pasta di sale. Vi domanderete da dove mi salta fuori l’idea. Sono passata davanti alla vetrinetta che contiene queste decorazioni decine di volte questa settimana con Andrea in braccio e spesso mi cadeva l’occhio su di esse. Hanno almeno 13/14 anni e sono ancora lì intatte e perfettamente conservate. Non so se vi ricordate: verso la metà degli anni ’90 c’è stato il boom della pasta al sale. Io mi ci sono tuffata anima e corpo! Ho fatto corsi, comprato libri, distrutto due frullatori e creato tante bamboline, ghirlande, sigilli… Poi la passione si è placata e da quando mi sono sposata, ormai quasi 10 anni fa, non ho più creato alcunché. Queste sono le foto di alcuni pezzi che mi sono rimasti e che mi ricordano di quando ero nel mio “periodo pasta di sale”
Will this January ever end? Here I am again, after a week of silence The flu has hit and sunk me and my baby. We adults already know what means to have the flu, for a little baby is much more and for a mother means spending hours and hours with the little one in her arms. A little one who has no peace, no position and needs you even if you are weak nearly as him but, he does not know this. During this week I can add a husband with a quite serious nuisance at work. I hope that February is only a little better.
Because it's not useful to complain, much less do it on a blog, I post some pictures of old works made with the salt dough. You will ask me where this idea jumped out from. Simply I passed in front of the cupboard, which contains these decorations, dozens of times this week with Andrea in my arms and my eyes often fell on them. They are at least 13/14 years old and still perfectly preserved. In the mid-90s there was the boom of the salt dough craft. I had classes, bought books, destroyed two mixers and created many dolls, garlands, seals ... Since I got married, almost 10 years ago, I have not been making anything else in salt dough. These are photos of some pieces that I have kept to remember when I was in my "salt dough mood"!
